We have for long been waiting for the new technology- The optic fiber to improve our IT industry! It seems to me that all is taking long to start working. I feel like changing my host but i can not find another one locally here!

I wonder if the new fiber optic option that was very recently introduced will help out with this situation. What do you think?

Some of the guys I met are trying to get a Google cache going in Ghana, which just like Uganda, would solve so many problems with bandwidth issues.

But what you're seeing in Uganda and what I saw in Ghana is harking back to the issues of Africa needing to host more local content. For people there, it loads wonderfully fast, but apparently comes down mostly to an issue of cost. I'm curious to see if all the new cable in East Africa for international connections, which will create more users in Africa overall, will ironically create more locally hosted sites as there will be more of an audience for it. One can only hope as the current situation is quite unfortunate and stifling a great deal of web innovation.

This sorry state of affairs in Uganda applies in most African countries south-of-the-Sahara, to various degrees. Outside South Africa, I am not aware of any other country that hosts a substantial percentage of its website content locally.

Too bad. :-(
