It could be as simple as a textbox and two buttons but servers a specific purpose (reag google). As far as I am concerned facebook login is not really a bad thing. And using features such as cookies you don’t need to do it time and again. Also facebook mobile is really simple and compelling to use. (clearly you have never tried it). And one thing about online communities, it works just like real communities. People like to be where other people already are. Facebook groups does exactly what motribe does and much more.

I wouldn’t say to use this just because it’s from Africa either. I am proud that an app of this quality is from Africa however.

I am thinking pages and groups which are fully blown features already in facebook and used by thousands of brands, products and people. Are we just supposed to use it because it is african or because it serves a need. I would rather stick to facebook where I have grown an natured a social graph for over two years that can quickly sign up to my events, pages, groups etc rather than recruit from scratch!

Is it also possible to set up a community using a phone only (~ doing the admin/install part via a phone)?
