Stories of this kind strengthens the belief I have in Africa’s emerging knowledge base. Innovation has to take the forefront if Africa is to recreate itself.

Thank you, Erik, for the inspiration. Two thoughts, one personal, one meta… As a leader, reading your post has me questioning the use of the word “poverty” in Dreamfish’s organizational narrative, how that shapes and binds and pulls to a larger societal story that keeps people in poverty. I am going to take a deeper look at this. Secondly, to go meta, I appreciate your advocating for social construction paradigm as a way to transform. “There is nothing as practical as a good theory” (Kurt Lewin) Applying the idea that we social construct the self and organizations through what we say and write, we can story ourselves anew. Taking this idea further, that we socially construct ourselves through our conscious actions, we can “practice” ourselves anew….We cultivate innovation by walking one step at a time, backwards into the unknown, listening and responding to our relations around us.

‘own the narrative’ — an idea all of us have the means to embrace. Thank you E. I’m going to share this in Liberia. Keep on keeping on.
