Great stuff Steve! I didn’t realize you had done that trip. Was it Cape to Cairo?

I have a slight advantage in the sand, in that I grew up learning how to ride on a skinny tires in the sands of Khartoum, Sudan. Riding on fat knobby tires was a bit easier. It was still a hard ride, it got a little iffy when we hit some puddles and had some of that talcum powdered sand which makes for slick surfing when wet… 🙂

Respect!!! Especially to Philip and the other bikers. I still think about driving through alternately muddy and sandy northern Kenya as an inexperienced biker. It scared the living daylights out of me. The feel of your bike as it starts behaving more like a 300kg surfboard than a bike is difficult to convey. Fell off more times than I can remember. Fixed more acacia thorn punctures than I care to remember. You guys have earned something on this trip that will be with you forever. I'm jealous although I know at times during this you might have wished yourself elsewhere. Total respect for pushing through. A solidarity photo -Steve
