Erik – what do you think is more important in the African context? Open source or a strong business model? Or both?

I think the strongest advantage of Populi is that it uses standard cell phones and not PDAs. But in the days of open source, I’m skeptical that closed development is really the way to go. (despite a public API) There are many foundations keen on financing this kind of thing IMHO.

I’ll put it to a test in Cape Town this month though 🙂
