Blood Diamonds – The Movie

Blood Diamond MovieBlood Diamonds looks to be a good movie, coming out mid-December. It stars Leonard DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly, not a bad line-up at all.

The Official Synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990s Sierra Leone, “Blood Diamond” is the story of Danny Archer (DiCaprio), a South African mercenary, and Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives.

While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon – who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields – has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory, a journey that could save Solomon’s family and give Archer the second chance he thought he would never have.

  1. We went to watch ‘The departed’ yesterday and i saw the preview there, its definitely intriguing. There is also another movie called ‘Catch a Fire’ set in South Africa, http://www.catchafiremovie.com/

Africa is definitely in hollywood’s sights…its what happens when Angelina gives birth there?! Just kidding…

  2. Ahh yeah, I forgot about that movie. It definitely looks good too. There has been a spate of movies set in Africa recently hasn’t there.

  3. I haven’t heard of Blood Diamonds before. It looks interesting. You’ll have to go and tell me if it’s worth watching. 🙂 The description sounds kind of like an Indiana Jones-set-in-Africa.

  4. did anyone else see Tsotsi another So.Af. film, but independently done..? very good.

  5. I would like to extend an invitation to you to join in on a collective blogging section of our upcoming winter issue of Reconstruction. The issue is the “Theories/Practices of Blogging.” In addition to the special section of posts on blogging there will be about a dozen essays on blogging.

    The deadline is October 27th.

Our intent in this section of the issue will be to collect a wide range of bloggers and link up to their statements in regards to why they blog (something many of us are asked) and any statement they have on the theories/practices of blogging.

If you already have a post on this you can feel free to use it, or, if you are interested, you can submit a new one.

We will link to each statement from the issue at our site, with the intent of creating a hyperlinked list of statements on blogging that can serve as an introduction to blogging (or an expansion of knowledge for those already blogging).

If you are interested please contact me at mdbento @ gmail.com

  6. Worst South African ever!

  7. Worst South African accent ever! I meant to say…

  8. I saw this movie last night! I loved that movie. It was really good. Well played indeed!

  9. This movie is so hart breaking…
People you got to see it it’s a good movie one of the best.

  10. An oscar winner for sure. Leonardo should win an oscar , the best for him since the Titantic ! Dijmon is equally excellent , and its a tough call for who did the best in this fast paced movie similar to Hotel Rwanda with double the action.

  11. Hollywood should put more movies about the biggest threat to our survival which has been forgotten since 9-11 . Everyone talks about Osama bin Laden , but nobody talks about Gatus Chan, he is the nuclear bomb master who is responsible for N. Korea, Iran and Pakistan nukes! The Islamic fundamentalists groups like Hamas, and Hezeballah who want to be martyrs and kill as many Americans as possible. They are also making
ties with S. America to have a closer enemy to the US like Hugo Chavez and he is preparing for war with his latest warchest from a sale in Russia.

  12. hi, i like your movie and im also a good actor,im a Zimbabwean living in South africa,I used to act some soapies wich never succeeded because of political instability in Zim but i would like to join some movie acting.if you can assist please call me on 002773 966 2713
